Our Story

Sepelas is a restaurant owned by Kennedy and Kety who came from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States of America in 2013 , We have three wonderful kids together – two girls and one boy.
Our family  settled in Champaign- Urbana, Illinois and we really have made it home. It is a small and charming University town with  increasingly growing oportunities, new visitors and activities.  We always dream of starting an African restaurant together here in Champaign- Urbana. As immigrants early on in America, we felt we had no way to start a business at first.  For many years we worked in a warehouse, but the idea kept coming up. In 2020, we decided to make the restaurant happen. 

We worked hard to make this dream come true. In 2023, finally we made it .
